Need help navigating our complex healthcare system? You’ve come to the right place. PremeraNews.com is launching a new partnership with Andrew Schorr, noted author, veteran healthcare consumer and Premera member. Andrew, whose book The Web-Savvy Patient: An Insider’s Guide to Navigating the Internet When Facing Medical Crisis was recently featured in the New York Times, will share his knowledge and expertise on how to become a smart healthcare consumer in his new column “Your Healthcare GPS,” which will appear on PremeraNews.com every Thursday starting January 5.
Andrew has been in health communications since 1984, following a career as a national television journalist and producer. In 1996, Andrew was diagnosed with leukemia. By connecting with an online community of patients he was guided to specialists in his condition. He enrolled in a clinical trial that, fortunately, led to a long-term remission and a normal life without the need for ongoing treatment. Andrew’s mission – his passion – is to empower other patients with information and the tools to be “powerful patients” themselves. His blog, his website PatientPower.info and his book The Web-Savvy Patient have helped thousands of readers around the globe become active members of their own healthcare teams.
If you have a question about you would like Andrew to answer in an upcoming column, post it on Facebook. And, check back next Thursday to read Andrew’s first column featuring tips on how to find good health information online.
